Roanmore GAA Club in conjunction with The Whitfield Clinic in Waterford embarked on an ambitious programme in late 2007.The aim of it was firstly the purchasing of a Defribrillator which would be installed on the sideline of our pitch at all home games at Pairc Ui Mhurchu and then with Dr.Michael O'Reilly of the Whitfield Clinic the setting up of a Cardiac Screening Programme for all members of our club.

The cost of purchasing a Defibrillator was an issue but it was overcome and is now installed in the club grounds.

Training of the appropiate adult members from the club in the proper use of the Defribrillator was the next issue and again that was achieved and in late March 2008 the club had a presentation of scrolls to the various members that passed the course.

Roanmore GAA Club were the first in the entire country to bring forward this type of care for its members and it recieved National coverage in print media as well as Television and Radio during the course of its launch.

President of the GAA Mr.Nicky Brennan speaking at the launch of this initiative praised Roanmore for their forethought in bringing forward this programme and said that in future with clubs investing in this life-saving equiptment it will better enable clubs nationwide to be better prepared should a player suffer a sudden cardiac arrest.
