5th August 2019
Junior Hurlers v Kilmacthomas
Our Junior hurlers returned to winning ways last Friday evening after beating Kilmacthomas 1-18 to 1-15 in Fenor with Tadhg Ryan contributing 1-04 to the total.
The opening score of the match came in the first minute when Tadhg Ryan opened his scoring with a point from a tight angle but was cancelled out shortly after. Ian Chester next fired over but Kilmacthomas took the lead converting two points (1f). The sides were level after six minutes when Ian Chester fired over a free followed by the influential David Barrett’s first point of the match. A Kilmacthomas pointed free saw the teams level for the third time before David Barret scored his second point only to see Kilmacthomas retake the lead with two scores (1f). From the 20th to the 29th minute we score four unanswered points from Ian Chester (3f) and David Barrett and it looked like we would end the half with a lead only for Kilmacthomas to score 1-01 in first half injury time to see us behind 1-07 to 0-09 at the break.
The second half started well for the team with two Ian Chester scores (2fs) and a Jake O’Sullivan point with Kilmacthomas scoring one point in reply to see us retake the lead but three unanswered Kilmacthomas points midway through the half saw them extend their lead to two points. With ten minutes remaining Tadhg Ryan fired a powerful shot to the net to see us creep in front by one only for Kilmacthomas to equalise once more with a pointed free. In the final ten minutes we were pressing for the win and were award three frees which Ian Chester despatched over the bar while Tadhg Ryan fired over two points and Ian Chester scored a point from play while Kilmacthomas could only score three points (2fs) to see the Junior team enjoy their fourth win on the campaign.
