Junior ‘C’ Hurlers v Butlerstown
Our Junior C hurlers played away to Butlerstown last Wednesday in their second round match of the championship. In a spirited performance, the team were unlucky not to come away from the match with a result and it was the last shot of the match that saw Butlerstown score a goal to leave the final score at 3-13 to 2-12.
We started the match brighter with Stephen Murphy pointing in the second minute from a free followed by Ross Cuddihy and then another point from Stephen Murphy. In the tenth minute we extended that lead when Tim O’Byrne was at hand to force the ball into the Butlerstown net to leave it 1-03 to no score. Shortly after Butlerstown scored their first point while Stephen Murphy fired over his third point.
Butlerstown converted a further four points (2fs) in the remainder of the half while Tommy Aldridge fired over a point and just before half time David Ryan fired into the net to leave it 2-05 to 0-05 at the break.
Butlerstown came steaming out of the blocks after the break and converted 1-02 before Shane Power fired over for us. Midway through the second half, the teams were level at 1-10 to 2-07 before we regained the lead when Philip Murphy (f) and a Ross Cuddihy point. Butlerstown's second goal saw them lead for the first time but a Stephen Murphy free saw the teams level for the second time. Butlerstown fired over three unanswered points before Stephen Murphy and then Philip Murphy scored to leave the minimum between the teams as we entered injury time. Unfortunately for the team, Butlerstown breached the defence with a late goal to win the match but our team showed some fine skill and endurance during the game.
