Congratulations to Sean Burke and Rory Furlong who represented Waterford in the Minor match against Clare on Sunday last.
Well done to all our members that were involved in preparing our Centre for the Munster Championship match against Clare last Sunday. Although the result did not go Waterfords way, the centre offered excellent hospitality and facilities to traveling supporters of both Counties.
Our Senior hurlers lost heir league match against Mount Sion on Saturday last on a score of 1-11 to 2-14.
Our Junior footballers lost their first round match to Erin’s Own last Friday on a score of 3-08 to 1-06.
Not Going on the Trip to Tipp next Sunday?
If you’re not going to Thurles next Sunday, why not join us in the Roanmore Centre to enjoy the occasion followed by music in the bar by Brendan McCarthy from 6pm to 8pm.
U11 City League
Our U11 White team competing in Division 3 of the City League travelled to Carrigeen on Wednesday of last week to take on the home team in what turned out to be a good sporting match. Our lads came our triumphant, winning out in a high scoring match by 8-6 to 3-3. In all a great performance by the team from the defence with Tom Halligan again outstanding, the midfield of Dylan Murphy and James Gannon on top throughout and Ollie Delahunty getting some great scores but man of the match for Roanmore was Ryan O’Connor-Burke who played on goal in the first half then full forward in the second half where he helped himself to 4 goals. Well done to all the boys and parents who were encouraging throughout on what turned out to be a very cold evening.
U12 City League – Blue Team
Our U12 Blue Team competing in Division 2 of the City League played on Thursday last away to Sacred Heart in Williamstown. These lads have been training and playing well lately and it is beginning to show now in their performance in the City League matches. The link up play from defence to attack is improving all the time and in this game despite periods of dominance from the opposition we were always in control. Leading at halftime by 1-3 to 0-3 despite playing into the breeze but this set us up nicely for the second half. A half that straight from the thrown in we went on the attack when Sean Murphy scored a lovely point. We added further points through Caoilinn Reville and Eoin Burke. Aaron McCabe got on the end of a nice pass to finish to the net but the biggest cheer of the night was when Keelan Murphy broke through the Sacred Heart defence to finish to the back of the net leaving a full time score of 3-8 to 1-3. Thanks to Sacred Heart who facilitated us with this fixture due to a number of our players away at the weekend.
U12 City League – White Team
Our U12 White team competing in Division 3 of the City League travelled to Tramore to take on Tramore Blue in the latest City League fixture on Friday evening. This is a young team of all U11 players but are a very skillful team and despite playing against a bigger team it was that skill that won out in the end. Playing with the wind at our backs in the first half we raced into an early lead with Darragh Hearne getting two near identical goals when he finished to the net from close range following passes from Daniel Ryan. This helped us to a lead of 2-6 to 1 goal at half time. We wondered would this be enough with the wind at Tramore’s back in the second half but we need not have worried as in the second half our backs led by a great display by Ryan Butler on goal and Steven Cooke cleared ball after ball at the other end we broke through for a great goal by Éanna McHugh to leave the final score of 3-8 to 1-3.
