Weekly Notes for 23rd December 2018

23rd December 2018

U21s are Eastern Champions
Our U21 hurlers were crowned Eastern Champions last Tuesday evening after a 4-13 to 2-07 win against St. Molleran’s at Carriganore.
We dominated the opening 10 minutes of the match but could not convert several attempts including a Cian Wadding goal attempt until Conor Ryan slotted over in the seventh minute. St. Molleran’s equalised in the tenth minute before Conor Ryan fired over his second point followed by a Harry White point. St. Molleran’s reduced the deficit to one by the fifteenth minute but then we outscored our opposition in the final ten minutes of the half. Points from Ian Chester, Cian Wadding and Conor Ryan was capped off with a fine goal from Cian Wadding and everything looked solid only for us to concede a goal on the stroke of halftime to leave it 1-06 to 1-03 at the break.
The opening score of the second half was to St. Molleran’s but from that point forward we dominated the game and in the next 10 minutes converted 2-05 with no reply with Cian Wadding scoring his second goal and points from Harry White, Ian Chester(65) and Billy Nolan (f). St. Molleran’s mounted a mini resurgence and converted 1-03 before Billy Nolan fired into the net for our fourth goal followed by his third point and Harry White finished his scoring to leave us the 2018 Easter U21 champions. Well done to the team on this fine performance.

Disappointment for U21s in County Final
In their second match of the week, our U21 hurlers faced Ballyduff Upper opposition in the County final in Fraher field on Saturday last but lost the encounter 3-10 to 2-06.
The first half was a very competitive encounter with both teams on 3points apiece as we entered injury time. Our scores coming from two Billy Nolan scores and a Cian wadding effort. As we entered injury time we conceded two frees which were converted followed by the games first goal and a final point from Ballyduff Upper to see them lead 1-06 to 0-03 at halftime.
The start of the second half saw Ballyduff Upper score a further 1-02 before we scored a point in the 40th minute followed by two Billy Nolan scores, one free and a second 20 metre free was fired ferociously into the net and it looked like a resurgence was possible. Unfortunately, we conceded a third goal and although we replied with our second goal scored by Tadhg Ryan, time was against us and Ballyduff Upper were County champions at the final whistle.
