Weekly Notes for 26th March 2018
Senior League v Dungarvan
On Monday 19th March in a bitterly cold Gold Coast pitch, our senior hurlers played their first competitive match of 2018 in the first round of the Senior League. Although trailing by two points at halftime our team outscored Dungarvan in the second half to finish the game 0-14 to 0-12 winners.
Our first scorer of the 2018 season was Paul O’Sullivan who fired over after five minutes to lead the match. Dungarvan responded with four unanswered points (1f) but Emmet O’Toole was unlucky when his shot on goal was saved on the line. In the next ten minutes we had scores from Brian Cooke, Gavin O’Brien, Emmet O’Toole (f) and Dean Reidy while Dungarvan responded with a single point to leave the sides level after 20 minutes on five points each. Dungarvan opened a three point lead with a converted 65, a free and a point from play while we converted one point in the closing stages to leave the halftime score 0-08 to 0-06 in Dungarvan’s favour.
Shortly after the restart the sides were level for the third time when Emmet O’Toole and Billy Nolan frees were converted. For the middle ten minutes of the half we dominated possession and territory and fired over four points to Dungarvan’s solitary score from play to give us a lead that we did not surrender. In the final few minutes Dungarvan scored a further three points (2fs) while we converted two points to end the match victorious.
