Weekly Notes for 17th September 2017
A Night for Mollie
What an amazing night in the Roanmore Centre last Saturday when the club hosted the ‘Night for Mollie’ benefit. The erected marquee was packed in addition to the centre and all there were entertained first by Bim Connors and then No Hot Ashes followed by a disco in the centre afterwards. These sort of nights take an significant amount of organisation and everybody involved in volunteering on the night and in the preparation for the run in and especially to all those patrons that purchased a ticket for the night are to be congratulated and thanked. These community based events for good causes show how we can work together to achieve a common goal.
Senior Hurlers v Fourmilewater
After the summer hiatus due to the inter-county games, our hurlers faced Fourmilewater in Fraher field last Saturday evening. Ultimately the match was settled early in the second half when Fourmilewater fired over eight unanswered points and although we outscored them in the final minutes and converting the only goal of the match it was not enough with the match finishing in a 0-19 to 1-12 loss.
Billy Nolan opened our scoring in the second minute with a pointed free with Fourmilewater’s Shane Walsh equalising soon after. Further points from Eamonn Power, Brian Nolan and Billy Nolan saw us lead 0-04 to 0-01 in the seventh minute. Over the next ten minutes, Fourmilewater fired over five unanswered points to lead by two before a Billy Nolan free and a Dale Hayes point squared the match in the nineteenth minute. A long distance Eoin Madigan score gave us the lead again only for Fourmilewater to score three further points before the first half ended while Stephen Grant fired over his first score of the match just before halftime to leave us trailing by one point at 0-09 to 0-08.
Shortly after the restart the sides were level for the fourth time when Billy Nolan fired over a free but in the next 15 minutes Fourmilewater fired over eight unanswered points (4fs) while we created some scoring opportunities but accuracy at goal left us down. The only goal of the game came shortly after when Brian Nolan was fouled after a great run and the resulting free was initially saved and Daniel Murphy was at hand to fire into the net. We conceded two further points before the end while Stephen Grant converted two points and Billy Nolan fired over a free.
Next up is Lismore.
