Weekly Notes for 16th July 2017

Junior Hurlers v Passage

Our Junior hurlers faced Passage last Friday evening in Poleberry in the third round of the Eastern Championship. Fielding a much changed formation from previous matches, the team went onto win 0-23 to 2-15 after trailing at halftime.
Passage played with the wind advantage in the first half but it was Roanmore that started brightly with Jack Chester, Ross Cuddihy and Ian Chester(f) firing over before Passage registered their first point in the eight minute. Tommy Aldridge converted two scores, one from long range and the other from an acute angle before Passage converted two frees. Jeff Tebay and Conor O’Byrne were next on the scoreboard for us before Passage scored their opening goal to reduce the deficit to one point. Our dominance continued for the next five minutes with Craig Norris and Ian Chester (2fs) firing over. Passage responded well and the final ten minutes of the half saw them convert a total of 1-04 (2fs) for no reply to head into the halftime break leading 2-07 to 0-10.
Right from the restart, our players pushed forward and Ian Chester was rewarded with two points (1f) before Passage opened their first score of the second half. Reece Flanagan was introduced and had an immediate impact with slotting over our next score followed by an Ian Chester free to equalise the game. Passage continued with great effort but our defensive play from Tim O’Byrne, Johnny Walsh and Corey Kavanagh were restricting scoring opportunities and Stephen Murphy playing in an unfamiliar role as goal keeper made an excellent save midway through the half when a goal looked certain.
Trailing by three points with eight minutes remaining the team responded to outscore Passage 0-08 to 0-03 with Ian Chester, Reece Flanagan and Jeff Tebay contributing scores while Passage fired over three points before fulltime.
Congratulations to the team with their next match against Bunmahon on Friday evening in Dunhill at 7:30pm.
