Weekly Notes for 12th June 2017
Junior Football v Ferrybank
Two missed goal opportunities in the opening minutes of our Junior football match against Ferrybank ultimately proved costly with Ferrybank coming from behind in the final five minutes of the match to win 1-07 to 1-05.
Playing in far from ideal conditions with continual rain and a persistent breeze the team won possession from the throw-in and in the first attack poor finishing saw the ball sail wide of the posts from an excellent scoring position. On the next attack a goal seemed certain but the ball ended up over the bar from a Tony O’Brien shot. Ferrybank equalised before Gary Dunphy regained the lead for us. The team were moving the ball well and players like Frank McGrath, Emmet O’Toole and Tim Byrne were working well in defence to work the ball into our forwards. Dean Reidy was always dangerous in possession and he scored our next score to lead 0-03 to 0-02 at the midway point of the half. For the remainder of the half we continued to push forward but it was not until the closing stages of the half that Shane Nolan converted a free and he followed almost immediately with a goal after some good play from Jim Walsh to lead 1-04 to 0-03 at the break.
Ferrybank responded well in the second half and push forward at every opportunity. Unfortunately, we only converted one score in the second half when Shane Nolan fired over. For the remainder of the half Ferrybank moved the ball and picked off scores through the half. With five minutes remaining we were still leading by two points holding on for the win. Unfortunately, a free into the area was not dealt with and Ferrybank scored their goal to take the lead. The next attack saw them fire over the bar with the final whistle shortly after to finish the match 1-07 to 1-05 in Ferrybank’s favour.
